Birthday Week: QPTV Trailer & AFP

November 8th, 2011

My birthday was last week. I travelled to Seattle to visit friends, and inadvertently signed myself up for a boozy 21st birthday at the dyke bars, American-style. Apparently, “trying to make out with everyone, puking, and blacking out is part of the AMERICAN DREAM!” I generally don’t drink, but I couldn’t refuse – it’d have been disrespectful to their culture!

Happy Birthday To Me!

November 1st, 2011

I had a link to an Amazon wishlist and a PayPal donation button on my home page for a while, but here’s what you could really help me with for my birthday. Please oh please, buy a Good Dyke Porn membership and support queer independent pornography! Bren and I REALLY want to keep making content, but to do it, we really truly need your help!

Quick Twitter How-To

October 15th, 2011

Occupy Vancouver is starting today. Our police department makes a lot of important announcements via Twitter and NOT in person, so I strongly advise anyone Occupying with a smartphone to follow them. (During the riots, my girlfriend and I read over Twitter that the cops would be using tear gas in certain areas…from the safety of our own home. Unfortunately, many people actually in the area were unaware of this.)

Not everyone knows how to use Twitter, so here’s a quick protest-specific tutorial! Read the rest of this entry »

HTML, YouTube, & the Queer Film Fest

August 22nd, 2011

I have been slowly creeping into the File Manager for my site and attempting to play with the HTML without my web designer’s supervision. (Nothing crazy; just staring at Battershell‘s codes until they make some sense to me.) Lucky for me, no disasters occurred! Instead, I did some minor tweaking here and there. Art is Happening!

August 14th, 2011

Artists I like are doing things!

My lovely friend Zoe Boekbinder has just released a new music video! She’s also nearly finished her new album, which I am very excited for. Until then, you can listen to and purchase her first record Artichoke Perfume off of her Bandcamp. (Zoe actually has a tattoo on her arm of artichoke perfume. It is the cutest.) Volunteer Opportunity: Condomania!

August 11th, 2011

For two years, I volunteered with PlanetAhead-Condomania, a sex-positive education program within Vancouver Coastal Health. As one of their educators, I taught workshops in high school classrooms to students ranging from grades 8-10 (around ages 12-15, for non-Vancouver folks). These workshops focused on:

  • STI transmission & safer sex barriers (with a condom demo also featuring the female/insertive condom)
  • effective methods of communication
  • identifying and respecting personal boundaries
  • giving and receiving consent (verbal and physical)
  • recognizing gender stereotypes and how they affect your personal gender
  • what it means to be transgender or intersex Read the rest of this entry »

My Name is Charlie Spats

August 6th, 2011

I’ve been having some Real Name vs. Pseudonym troubles as of late. It can be tricky maintaining both. I always stumble over which one to use when I’m introducing myself. Generally speaking, I use my Real Name when I’m with my family and close friends, when I’m handling grown-up matters (rent, employment, taxes, etc.), and when I’m introducing myself to someone who doesn’t seem to be closely linked to the queer, kink, or porn communities in any way. If I’m meeting people through Good Dyke Porn, or if I’m on a porny business trip, I generally only go by Spats. If I’m meeting people in Vancouver who seem as though they may be interested in my work, sometimes I’ll use both. Sometimes I’ll follow my girlfriend’s lead if it’s one of her friends, as she also balances two names for two different communities. Read the rest of this entry »
